
Sort of like a mentor to many upcoming designers in Japan, Kita-san, the Creative Director of Gallery 1950 (G1950), is also a quick study of Americana and its cultural influence - a reference point he draw inspirations from for many G1950’s designs and collaborations. One such is the recent partnership with PONY. Out of gritty streets of Brooklyn, PONY’s canvas sneakers was long view as the be-it-all, do-it-al alternatives to the more expensive adidas and Nike. A testament to its versatility, kids would rock the same pair from to the concrete courts dotted across NYC, only to skate home on the same pair after the quick pick up game.
