To capitalize the proximity of the 2011 NBA All-Star Game to Hollywood, Nike Basketball will offer 3 designs for Kevin Durant, LeBron James, and Kobe Bryant this weekend in Los Angeles, all of which will include graphics known as lenticular pattern. A lattice work of various images merged with a very thin lenticular film, the end product produces an effect where images morph when view at different angle. In reference to Tinsel Town and the fluidity of basketball game, the cohesive design concept, billed as “Attack From All Angles”, will be a head turner for gathered fans at Staples Center, much like the Christmas 2010 “Signal Your Color” collection. In Division East’s vivid royal blue, the Nike LeBron 8 includes all the features prescribed by LeBron James with one addition, the lenticular logo on the shoe’s tongue which transform from the ruby-eyed lion head to the word East.

When three influential streetwear brands get together for a collaboration project, the end product will be above average to say the least. UNDFTD Japan, Stussy Japan and HECTIC teamed up with New Balance Japan to create the quadruple brand project, the H754 Ducky. An obvious influence from the outdoor boots, evident by the two tone cord shoe laces, metallic lace loops and earthy color tone. Tan upper wrapped with a  khaki strip and a safety orange inner lining gives a hint of hunting season. Printed on the sockliner are familiar logos of each label, the H754 Ducky is scheduled to drop this Saturday, December 4th at select store in Japan only.

There are a few directions sneakers attempting to change the game can go these days– luxury and designer, ostentatious and loud or reviving the vintage. Sadly for girls, good sneakers that fall into either of those categories  (or break out of those boundaries) only appear on scene once in a blue moon, and BOOJI’s Miss MDot felt the same as well. It seems like Miss MDot has tweaked sneakers with innovative materials and looks previously seen on runways (ankle pouches have appeared on Chanel’s runway a few seasons ago), and have achieved great results to that effect. The end product are refreshing, innovative, and quite frankly outside the (shoe) box. Think high top sneakers with bright tiger print mixed with hiking laces, herringbone slip-on low-top with an interesting overlaying lace placket panel…BOOJI sneakers are quite perfect for ladies who live loud and love color, and perhaps are searching for something a little more toned down than Jeremy Scott’s screaming oversized Trefoil. Remember earlier this year, Nike teamed up with New York-based textile and fabric design company, Maharam, and designer Hella Jongerius to create a pair of Air Force 1 with an interesting patchwork stitching and oriental embroidery. The end 2009 on the same note, Nike had once again sought out Maharam to create a collection of three sneakers, but this time in an ever-cool monochrome.

The Maharam Collection features two of Nike’s iconic models, the Blazer and the Oregon Waffle in a special Maharam horse hair textile. Maharam achieves a sophisticated tonal black look by dressing the kicks from top to bottom and soles in varying materials of black. The methods used to produce the weaved effect is as interesting as its end product. Maharam created the horsehair weave in different patterns by using vintage looms and techniques to produce classic weaves of basket (Blazer), check (Blazer) and striae (Oregon Waffle). The shoes are kept intentionally unadorned to highlight the texture and opulence of material, with the effect heightened by the use of black calfskin and waxed laces. The innovative use of weaved horse hair gives the shoes an expected sheen as it catches light from different angles. For those who are avid animal-rights enthusiasts, these kicks are cruelty-free as horsehair is painless clipped from the tail and it will regrow.

By fusing innovation, tradition and commitment to sustainable design, Nike and Maharam has successfully developed sneakers with lavish sophistication that are as well suited for the day as it is for evening and business attire. The Maharam Collection will be released tomorrow on Dec. 19.

While PUMA’s collaborations with Sergio Rossi and Alexander McQueen proved that the label has upscale luxury on its mind, the label 917 Mid Manga proved that it can go on the other side of the spectrum. Taking on the silhouette of the label’s 917 Mid, these sneakers get a Japanese touch with details drawn and sewn own. Also, take note of the animated details such as the reflective bubble on the toe cap, dotted shadow and sketchy shading. If a manga artist was to draw the 917 Mid in his work and that resulting pictures is promptly realized in the real world with three dimensions, this would be the end product. There is no doubting the claim that Nike has been pushing the envelope with their latest sneaker hybrids as of late, and we now have another combination of two sneakers to share. The end product has been dubbed the Air Maxim Trainer 1 because the two sneakers meshed together are the Air Maxim 1 and the Air Trainer 1. This colorway hosts a grey upper with black, chlorophyll, and white accents. The overall shape of the sneaker is extremely similar to the Air Maxim 1 with the addition of a forefoot strap. The Nike Air Maxim Trainer 1 will release in the coming months.
