The winning combination of leather brand Schott and CONVERSE is back at it again for the Spring 2011 season. Modifications to the classic Chuck Taylor form resulted in the new version, Chuck Taylor Leather Jacket. Several diagonal pleats and stitching created linear accents on the side of the uppers with zippers placed on the inside by the eyelets for aesthetic purposes. On the heel tab, a functional zip enclosure aids in snug fit of the shoes. White leather trimming on the midsoles accentuate the appearance. Currently these are available at INVINCIBLE in Taiwan and other select stockists around the world.

The name Jay Chou may not be a familiar one. But if the megastar from Taiwan plays his cards right, his introductory role to Hollywood as Green Hornet‘s sidekick, Kato, will propel him to stardom in the West.  Just how it helped Bruce Lee 4 decades ago as he took on the role in the Green Hornet television series.  In the numerous movie tie-ins to come, Chou’s boutique in Taipei City, PHANTACi, partnered with New Balance in the creation of a New Balance MT580 in Green Hornet theme.

Predominately in Green Hornet’s color scheme of black, white, and green, with a construct in perforated leather and the addition hornet’s nest motifs around the eyelets. Accents in patent leather, a set of Green Hornet mask lace dubrae, plus special hangtag with both collaborator’s logos, further elaborate the design.  Unfortunately, as a promotional edition for Friends & Family, only 12 pairs were made.

We recently gave some preview images of the upcoming release of this PHANTACi x New Balance MT580, which will release to commemorate the upcoming Green Hornet film. The color references are obvious to the masked Hornet, as there are green hits on the midsole rollbar, the outsole, lace, tongue, and lining–not to mention the mask that adorns the laces. A hit of pink appears on the tongue, and the rest is a collection of varied black materials, including patent on the panel above the midsole, perforated leather on the toebox and collar, and patterened letter on the midfoot. The owner of Taiwan’s PHANTACi boutique, Jay Chou, stars as Kato, and here we see an example of some direct input on a sneaker from an actor with some streetwear knowledge.

As a winter rainstorm passed over the skyline of Taipei City, a royal blue Lamborghini Gallardo pulled up to the BAPE flagship store at Ren-Ai Avenue and out stepped NIGO himself for the launch of the BAPE x AEON Scooter. Billed as the BAPEON Scooter, the collaborative vehicle is based on AEON CO-in series and powered by a 120cc single cylinder engine. Application in an all over scheme with A Bathing Ape’s BAPE 1st Camo pattern in green or pink, only 500 of the scooters will be produced. Flanked by models, NIGO also unveiled a line of riding accessories, featuring jackets, gloves, and riding sleeves. Priced at NT$80,000, or $2,750, the BAPEON Scooter is available exclusively at BAPE Store Taipei.

Aside from the Summer 2010 Collection preview of Nike Sportswear at yesterday’s media summit in Taipei, Taiwan. Nike, along with the representatives from Jordan Brand, unveiled several upcoming Air Jordan models set to launch in a few months. Though a few were re-release, most were popular models with the addition of fresh colorways. Another is interesting edition is the Air Jordan 2010, except the familiar clear circular window centerpiece is now filled with the Jordan insignia. Hosted by its subsidiary in Taiwan, Nike and Nike Sportswear unveiled the new product offerings for Summer 2010 at a daylong event in the capital city of Taipei. Featured items from several segments Nike will be focusing upon this year, including the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa and continue its dominance in the sport of tennis with updated colorways of its Grand Slam Polo line. The athletic giant also introduced several new company initiatives – a continuation on expanding its women’s collection plus introduction of new lifestyle oriented designs, such as the Aina Chukka, Air Feather Hi, Lunarlite Rejuven8 Mid and Air Maxim Torch+. It was a slightly overcast Thursday morning, with New Yorkers rushing through Midtown to work, coffee cup in one hand and Blackberry in another. All in all, your regular mid-week morning except for one thing– a galactic Imperial March sharing the Times Square sidewalk with pedestrians. Starting from Foot Locker on 34th Street, Sith Lord Darth Vader breathed and led a convoy of Stormtrooper, standing with an approximately 20-strong from NorthEast Remnant Garrison of the battle-hardened 501st Legion (aka Vader’s Fist).  The group also included Imperial Biker Scouts and Platoon Leaders (with orange pauldron), armed with a variety weaponry, including the standard issued BlasTech E-11 Blaster Rifles and the more potent DLT-19 Heavy Blaster. A little more insight into the troops, the Imperial biker scouts carried Blaster pistols and were not afraid to use them at innocent pedestrians.

The invasion of George Lucas’ iconic villains comes as an opening note for the launch of the highly anticipated adidas Originals x Star Wars collaboration which has been previewed, discussed, then unveiled since the end of 2009. While the campaign had already hit some other parts of the world including Singapore and Taiwan, the New York City launch comes packed with more power, and more Stormtroopers.

After departing from 34th Street, the troops convened with hip-hop star extraordinaire, Snoop Dogg, Foot Locker in Times Square. Both Foot Locker stores sport windows dressed in a huge stamped adidas Originals sign with co-branded adidas Originals x Star Wars logo. The troops then ended their Imperial March from 34th Street to 42nd Street in Foot Locker Times Square, giving photo opportunities to excited fanboys and curious earthlings alike. But behold, the wrath of Darth doesn’t quite end at 42nd street as the team will later journey down south to adidas Originals in SoHo, where Snoop Dogg, along with the Star Wars troops will unveil something that can essentially take over the world in one single step.

After a bustling healthy stint in Shanghai, Hong Kong’s well sought-after boutique, Juice (as a part of design and media collective, CLOT), is ready to bring the Juice Stand across the strait to Taipei. The temporary pop-up venture sports freshly squeezed goodies from CLOT’s Fall/Winter 2009 collection, “From Dusk Till Dawn”. For those who are unfamiliar, the collection is a physical reflection of its name– a line-up of apparel and accessories that can take its wearer through day and night and all kinds of play, working on theme of “We Play We PLAY”. The pop-up shop is a way of bringing the Taiwanese folks a little taste and sip of CLOT’s creativity and sense of style, and a more accessible way for fans in Taiwan to get their hands on products they have been coveting. Aside from selling the Fall/Winter 2009 collection, the JUICE Stand also doubles as a space for the ALIENEGRA Exhibition. ALIENEGRA is the first apparel line from CLOT created by Madsaki, Edison Chen and Kazuki, and also revived in November in form of the ALIENEGRA Desert Camo Parka. The exhibition hosts the complete collection of ALIENEGRA items created throughout the years, many of which are rare items which have been sold out and are a part of Edison Chen’s personal collection.
